Army surplus tents come in an assortment of shapes and sizes due to many purposes for which they can be used. Most of these tents are larger in size and used for more commercial purposes.

One popular army surplus tent is the frame tent. One of these types of tents is large at 11 feet by 11 feet and freestanding. The tent material is vinyl and the frame itself is made of aluminum and folds to a portable size. This type of tent can be joined together with another tent to form a large sheltered area or used as a canopy at the back of a vehicle. A vinyl floor is also included with the tent. Another frame type tent that can be used for general purposes is even larger at 16 feet by 16 feet by 16 feet and also comes with an aluminum frame that is collapsible. This tent can be made of either canvas or vinyl and includes six large screened windows. Its best uses are as a carport or for the basis of a campsite.

Other tents have frames that are not made of aluminum and are more free-standing structures. One of these is what is known as a temper tent that is of modular construction and can be set up to almost any length that is required. It is 12 feet in height with walls that are less than seven feet in height. Screened windows are also a feature of this tent as well as a cloth and rain fly. A tent that can be used for truck maintenance, as a barn or warehouse has an arched shaped magnesium modular frame, is 20 feet wide and can be built to any length that is a multiple of eight feet. Due to its size, it requires three people to set it up.

There are army surplus tents that can also be used to house people. These are known as artic tents and tend to be hexagonal in nature. They are lightweight and can be connected to each other to form a row of tents. They have insect screens, a jack for a stove and are set up using poles and guy stakes. There are also crew tents that are square in shape, ten feet on a side with a five foot high dome and a built-in water-tight floor. These tents include two screened doors and vent windows, a stove jack and a rain fly. These have a folding frame and are quick and easy to set up due to their smaller size.

If you are looking for an army surplus tent that can be used on camping trips and more personal uses, there is the military pup tent. These are typically comprised of two shelter halves or tent sections with tie down ropes, metal grommets buttons on the edges. With the two halves used together, the tent is nine feet long by six feet wide and 42 inches at its peak. Poles and tent stakes are used to set it up. It is typically water repellent and can fit several people comfortably.
